Space, the final frontier...
Happy Friday to you!
I hope your day is going smoothly as we ease into a lovely weekend. A long one for my US pals. Enjoy!!!
In past when I did any organizing, I couldn't wait to fill up the empty drawer, closet, or shelf with more items. What I was really doing was just moving stuff around. Like when I was a kid and had a yard sale. My friends would run over and buy my toys with their allowances and then eventually I would end up purchasing their toys at a future sale. A junior version of the Canadian economy! It worked for us!
So my goal now when organizing is to treat space as special and allow for more of it on shelves. Not to cram so many books, cds, art supplies, etc. into one area (actually this is three - one area for each). I still love the mantra "old item out, new item in" when shopping - this INCLUDES yard sales since I know how tempting it is to purchase 14 teacups for $7! Unless you own Ye Olde Tea Shoppe (and that is SO cool if you do), or your last name is Walton, then I'm thinking you don't need 14 used cups and then have to find space for them. You KNOW you grab the same mug/cup every single day for your morning brew. You may have a favourite one for the evening but that's about it. I do it too. Creatures of habit, huh? *grins*
This goes for drawers too and closets. Dressers are particularly challenging because out of sight, out of mind! At least now when I put clothes in my dresser, I only store items that I love and wear. Everything else has been recycled. 2010 is definitely my year to organize!
How much space do you have in your home that you don't use for storage? Could you clear a small area in your home? That could be your own sacred space. Reminds me to take a breather and not try to fit everything into my life all at once.
Have a fabulous weekend and we'll reconnect on Monday!
