Spring Fling!

Hey there,

How has your week been so far?  Groovy I hope! Lovely this morning with rain in the afternoon. However, this gal lives in the moment so I'm only seeing sunshine!!! Coffee, tea, juice? Comfy? Good, let's go.....

You know, there was a time when I spent MORE energy watching shows on organizing (NEAT was the best!) and reading books about organizing and less on ACTUALLY organizing.  I went through years of reviewing lots of self-help books.  I do feel they serve a purpose and bring a lot of comfort to many.  However, after I realized that my collection of books on "The Simplicity Movement" were overcrowding my space (yes, I DO see the irony), enough was enough (literally!!)

So, after much encouragement from the home front (and by encouragement I mean an intervention about my stuff taking up too much space), I was finally able to start letting go of things.  Books went to the library, were given to new homes, or recycled.  Collectibles (I heart CUTE!) were given away or I modified the collections.  Snoopy is my Kryptonite! They really were everywhere! On shelves, tucked into drawers, boxes, storage units, etc.  One collection of memorabilia on a well known British actress went on eBay and PAID for a trip out west to see my favourite singer perform her last two concerts ever!  I didn't even look at this old collection and the memories from the shows will last a lifetime.  They still make me smile almost 8 years later....

I totally get the sentimental attachment to your stuff and sometimes for reasons that you can't explain.  You open the cupboard, see the beloved item there, take it out, tell yourself that you will give it away because you never use it.  Minutes later you reconsider because your heart says "not yet" and you return it to the closet.  Maybe a loved one gave it to you and they are no longer in your life.  Maybe it cost A LOT of coinage and you can't get over that you never got your money's worth (and sadly, never will - been there, done that, MORE than once - tags still on them!)

However, freeing up that space or finding a home for your item can give you tremendous energy to let go of other things.   For me, that included weight.   Funny how things work out that way.  It's like they are all connected (they are!)

Until Friday!

Linda
