Too Much of a Good Thing

Hey there Gentle Reader,

MONDAY is here (already!) and the sun is shining.  Back to work after an EXTRA long weekend.  Sigh. Methinks a latte is in order....

As you know, I did some organizing on the weekend and I have come to this conclusion that you CAN have too many possessions in your life!  I know, I'm a LEO and I wrote it!  The more items you have in your world, the more maintenance and responsibility is attached to them. Doesn't make one very portable either.  NOT that I'm planning on joining a traveling circus any time soon, BUT it does make you wonder.

You CAN have too much of a good thing!

I started thinking about crystal and other breakable (VERY when you have kittens) goods that are in storage and not being used.  100-year-old crystal is about as strong as meringue and considering I really don't drink very often, well, when is THAT going to be used? Truly 100. I get nervous just being around it!

Yes, I know your grandmother/aunt/mom/next-door-neighbour gave you that beautiful figurine/glass/bowl.  If you are just storing it and only displaying it when the gift giver visits, ask yourself if that's working for you. Guilt can be an energy-sapping emotion and we can all be pulled in one direction or another over gifts.  I'm in that boat right now.  Some very dear people gave them to me but I don't use the items, don't have the physical space to store them, and know that others would probably appreciate them much more!

Once I sold a figurine on eBay.  The man who purchased it said it was a gift to his mother-in-law since the name of the figurine was the same name as his late wife.  It was his way of bonding over a very sad situation.  He was so pleased to get it and I was happy that it would be in a new home and enjoyed very much.

Next on my list is some jewelry that I will never wear and of course that very old crystal.   This is more than the big ticket items we discussed last week.  More of big emotional ones.  Not easy but I know it is necessary to have them move on.  Very freeing once done too.  This isn't the first time that I've let go of emotional items.  Sold many gold pieces about 15 years ago and it felt great!! The money was very nice too.

If you could part with one of those emotional items, which one would it be?

Hang in there! You can do it!!

Linda
