Helper Monkey
Hey you,
Me here! How's life? Great I hope on this fine sunny Friday. A bit chilly but we're in that not-quite-Spring-but-it-is-Spring weather. I am looking forward to May!!
I seem to be on a mission lately Gentle Reader, a quest to help others. When I was a wee kid *cue background music* my Grandmother (Mom's Mom) said that we were on this planet to help other people. That was her philosophy in life. Plain and simple. Sounded pretty dang fine to me!
I miss those days when your neighbour would really stop by for a cup of sugar (I'm not kidding! This DID happen!) or a couple of eggs or would drop off a peach pie just because they baked a few and knew you liked peach pie. I REALLY miss those neighbours!! When two kids would race to the front door of a mall to hold it open for someone and grin at each other when the person said thank you. When you would pick up a garbage can that fell on its side or a bicycle that the wind knocked over. We should do that again.
So I figure no more pouting about it. I will BE that person (just like that lovely quote by Gandhi "You must be the change you want to see in the world.") If others want to do the same, that's fabulous! If not, then that's ok too. At least I will be a happy little helper monkey!
Have you noticed lately that people complain A WHOLE BUNCH about what is wrong with the world but have little to say about what is right? Or any suggestions to improve things. Why is that? For me, it takes more energy to be negative than positive. I admit that as I get older, I am too sensitive to be around this kind of energy. I don't try to change the person, I just walk away.
So my plan for 2010 is to help, help, and help some more! Wanna join me?
Until Saturday!
Linda

I live in a nice little block. Our houses are separated by fences, which we talk over, yell over, climb over. We borrow sugar, eggs, mustard, tabasco, and BEER! Yes! We borrow beer. We share. It's fab.
And I agree. I'm a helper, too, and I feel like I'm able because of people like you who have restored my faith in goodness and kindness.
I just spent the last 20 minutes leaving nice messages on people's FBs--thanking them for things they've done for me or the community or just saying hi. Someone just did that for me at the School of Rock, so I'm paying it forward. The amazing thing is this: kindness is the only thing you pay that actually pays you more. I love that. But it's not why I do it. Because that would be selfish.
