My Religion is Kindness

Hi there Gentle Reader,

We're talking some major sunshine north of the border.  70+F.  Niiiiiice.

One of my favourite Dalai Lama quotes is this one:

"My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness."

I attended a speech by the Dalai Lama in April 2004 in Toronto.  Over 15,000 people waited in the pouring rain and then had to go through the security checks before getting to their seats. The winds were so powerful that day that most of the umbrellas lost the battle.  So despite being rain-soaked, there were 15,000 smiling faces in the crowd.   Completely life-changing.  You could feel his warmth and compassion fill the entire room.  A truly joyful moment.   I still feel it 6 years later.

You know, I'm not concerned if you belong to a particular religious group or even if you have one.  What I do want though is that you practice kindness every day.  To yourself, your family, and friends.  OF COURSE, to ALL animals.  That goes without saying BUT I like to say it.

Anyhoo...

We've chatted about how this was the norm not that long ago.  Everyone tried to be neighbourly to others.  Second nature.  Today, not so much but I have faith it is out there and IN you!

This long weekend is the perfect time to start flexing those kindness muscles.  Even a smile is a very healing and positive way to spread love and joy.   A compliment to a stranger (heartfelt of course) or feeding the squirrels in the part all adds up to feeling wonderful.

It is our responsibility to take care of each other on this lovely planet AND including the planet!  We did it during the crisis in Haiti, 9-11, and Katrina.   However, it shouldn't take a major tragedy for everyone to pull together.  We need to get that love out now.  No more waiting.

If people think you're odd so be it.  Wouldn't it better to be thought of as that neighbour who is wacky but kind?

Hey, it's worked for me for almost 49 years and I wouldn't change a thing!

Oot and aboot today.   Catch you on Sunday!

Linda
