Laugh Out Loud!
Hi there,
Great seeing you! Coffee is just brewing. Sunny in Toronto but chilly - supposed to be in the low to mid 20's tomorrow (celsius that is!)
What makes you laugh? I don't mean the obvious like THIS clever, wacky blog (ahem) BUT literally having tears running down your face? We need to get more of it! Onward Gentle Reader *clutches coffee mug*
This morning as I was on the exercise bike (30 minutes every weekday!), I was watching the kitten play with a slipper sock. Ok the sock is about the size of Edie but she loves to flip it in the air and catch it. That makes her VERY happy and made me laugh all morning. She would race over to me WITH the sock in her wee mouth in the hopes that I would throw it across the room. Have ya ever tried to throw A SOCK...yeah, doesn't travel very far. Soooo there were a lot of breaks in those 30 minutes!
So Jack and Edie make me laugh - a lot! We find them even more entertaining that TMZ. Truly!!
Sandra Shamas makes me laugh. Whether I am enjoying her words in one of her fabulous books or watching her on stage, my side will ache for days. Felt like I broke a rib once when I saw her at the Rivoli. A small price to pay for witnessing comic genius! Years ago, while at the World's Biggest Bookstore, the security dude warned me TWICE that I was laughing too loudly while reading Trilogy. For the record, yes I own the book but it was still fun reading it in the store. I'm goofy that way (SURPRISE...not!) If Sandra is appearing in your sweet town then rush to get tickets (they disappear FAST). You're welcome in advance (trust me, you'll thank me later!)
I remember the first time I was in a movie theatre and literally slid down my seat because I was laughing so much. The movie was The Money Pit and the scene involved a raccoon. Enough said.
The Concordes make me smile - their music and show. Clever-squared. The show The Office (both Ricky Gervais and Steve Carell versions - both fabulous) will really connect with those of us in the 9-5 world.
Those childhood "they should be sued for dressing me that way" photos are fun to look at (and cringe). Wild colours and patterns and materials all mashed together. The 70's were an interesting fashion period. A lot of corderoy and velour (or wait, velour was in the early 80's) The 60's had me in sailor outfits (WTH?!), and bonnets of all shapes and sizes. Looking at many photos from the 60's makes me think that my parents got a huge discount at Hat World! In one, it looks like I am wearing a pie-plate and in another, I'm happily sporting a sombrero! Ok then.....
I want YOU to make a list (oh yeah, it is LIST time Gentle Reader!) of all the things in life that make you laugh or have made you laugh in the past. Friends, family stories, books, jokes, movies, tv shows, songs, etc. Please write it all down. This list is fun to do and so valuable on those days that you might not feel like smiling too much.
Next we need to find more of those things and revisit some of your favourite movies or tv shows. Thankfully most faves from our childhood are on dvd now. Fascinating to watch through adult eyes now too. Gulligan's Island and I Dream of Jeannie have MANY more meanings!
Keep laughing and we'll chat again on Thursday!
Linda
