Monkey Unplugged
Hi there,
Tuesday here and a bit blustery in the big city. Sunshine is on the schedule for tomorrow. Yes!!!!
Recently I've had a great blessing come out of a change in my everyday routine. My Blackberry was no longer needed for my job. Instant withdrawal. Major MAJOR pining for that little beloved plastic box. No longer could I check emails day or night (or in transit), or chat with pals whenever, or always be on call. Sigh.
I was determined to get another one and immediately began checking out Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, Bell, Telus, Rogers, and Fido. Whew! Did the math and WHOA, that is some kind of coinage to get everything that I NEED (yes NEED). I am Leo, hear me ROAR.
Then I did some more thinking. Seriously, what was I doing? I am always talking about slowing down to smell the roses, how important it is to sit in coffee houses and write on paper, to listen to music, or get caught up with pals. I didn't immediately NEED a cell phone for anything really. Sure, I admit that I have held my iPod like a Blackberry and almost tried to text on it (once, just once!) but this has been an interesting experiment.
Feels odd when I am out of town but also feels very freeing. There are still payphones out there (truly!) and I'm actually reading again (books, real books!)
Now I can't say that this will last forever but this much I know is true. That sometimes you need to step away from technology in order to feel more connected with yourself and the world.
Sorry Google.
Until Wednesday.
Linda
