Going, Going, and GOING!
Hiya,
Monday and Daylight Savings Time has arrived in Canada. *whimper* I do miss that hour already! Still we're here and that's the main thing! Ok, who wants coffee? I have LOTS to go around.
Doing some office organizing too - overflow from my plans on the weekend. Especially now with the weather so grey and rainy here in Toronto. Trying to keep occupied indoors so when that sunshine starts smiling soon (please!!) then I'll be ready to run out and hug the sunbeams out of it!
Part of the challenge of being so visual when it comes to liking my stuff around me, is, well....having all my stuff around me! I am one of those out-of-sight, out -of-mind kind of gals. If an items goes in a drawer or cabinet, I become an Etch-A-Sketch. Buh-bye memory! However, this is where having a home for everything is so vital - so at least you know that all receipts are in one folder in one area or that your photos go in an album on the bookshelf and not tucked into various boxes or books throughout. *note to self - read own blog and apply ideas about photos*
Usually a distraction will cause us to temporarily store something in the wrong place - the phone rings as you walk in the door, so you put your car keys on the kitchen table as you answer it. You have your reading glasses on when viewing that small thesis on the back of the box of your new skincare cream (seriously, why do they do that?) and then forget that your glasses are on the bathroom cabinet. Your gloves need mending so you tuck them in the drawer with the sewing kit (yay!) and then forget to bring them to work (or even remember to repair them! *guilty - party of 1*)
This also a fabulous time of year to start giving items away - those things that are still very useful and in good condition. Sure, you can have a yard sale or even sell some items on eBay but that is usually a one-time effort (and a lot of work too). However, most of us have pals who are moving or students who need items for school or that we even know of someone in our apartment who could use what we have. Remember many years ago when I recycled those Christmas magazines (91!) in my laundry room and they were gone before I went back to put the clothes in the dryer?
We need to follow the rule - ONE item OUT for every new item we bring IN. Keeps your space balanced! When you have to recycle a sweater or book, it can really make you really think about whether or not you need that new purchase. Sometimes our impulsive purchases are a clutter problem just waiting to happen! If you are making a big ticket purchase, always best to do the 24 hour rule. NOT to buy anything until the following day - you'd be surprised how that shiny item on Saturday afternoon isn't so sparkly on Sunday. If you don't love it then step away from the item. We only want things in your life that make your heart sing!
Happy organizing!
Linda
