Because I Said So!
Hiya Gentle Reader,
SECOND DAY OF SUN, SECOND DAY OF SUN!!! OH and the birds are chirping too and I can see Spring in the distance!!!! Giddy-squared.
Who's on YOUR speed dial? I mean in the #1 spot. Your partner? Parent? BFF? How about in your own inner circle? *waits patiently* You? "What ??" you gasp! "ME? HAHAHAHAHA noooo..." Well, I'm here to ask WHY NOT??
Why can't you be as good to yourself as you are to others? I'm including strangers here too. I mean some people will practically risk life or limb (or a jumbo Timmy's coffee) to hold the door open for a stranger. I'm all for being nice (Canada in da house!!) but you need to be lovely to you too.
While that is all fine and dandy (yes, I wrote that), why is it that you still have that broken umbrella or wear mismatched socks? How come you haven't replaced them yet? Why is it that you eat your dinner between the table and the kitchen sink because you keep jumping up to refill milk glasses? Don't think that I haven't been watching either. You justify your actions saying that X or Y needs something instead or that you haven't had the time to do anything about it. I am here to say make the time because I said so!
I'm not saying that you to have to suddenly start thinking ME ME ME. However, I want you to be comfortable with doing things for yourself as easily as you do for others. It's all about balance and less about extremes or playing the martyr. In the long run you'll either burn out or become bitter and resentful or both. Heavens knows that we have ALL had THAT person is front of us at Starbucks....on a Monday morning yet. *shivers*
You can book appointments with yourself in your agenda book as a way of respecting your own time as much as a business colleague or friend. I like it!!! Do it and write in ink. (see March 2, 2010 blog "Just Do It") The more YOU time you make for yourself, the less stress you will feel. I'm telling you this from experience!
What is one thing that you can book today that will put you first? I need to know.
Linda
PS. I apologize to PK, my grade 13 English teacher, for my "creative" use of grammar. I REALLY do remember everything you taught me. It's just...um...that I....write like I speak . *nervous giggle*
