Just say YES!
Hi there,
How have you been? Hope your week is going very well and if not, there's always FRIDAY! Ah Friday!
We've chatted before how I used to be one of those waiting-for-life to happen kind of gals in the past. Had good reason to be that way (in MY mind of course!). Too many disappointments in life so I stopped taking risks. Just said nope-nada-never to adventures of any type. Any risk to me meant potential heartache so I chose the "safety nets of safety nets" - just saying no to life. Truthfully, while the last 10 years have been the BEST decade of my life, 2009-10 is turning out to be spectacular.
The reason being - I started to say YES to invitations, events, and experiences in life.
Now I'M the one who asks the questions, makes the plans, and gets out there to fully embrace everyone and everything.
Yet I do understand how that can be very intimidating if you're shy or a lonely or comfortable with your day-to-day routine. However, take it from this normally shy Chica, life isn't as scary as it sometimes appears to be. Usually we can spend far more energy worrying about what MIGHT happen versus what could or will happen.
I read this quote in a Norman Vincent Peale book once: "Worry is a rocking chair that never takes me anywhere" - wise words!!
Sometimes we need to push past that I-could-never-do-THAT feeling and say yes to that invite to an art lecture, or coffee with a co-worker, or ice-skating after 20 years of being nowhere near a rink!
For this week, please accept one opportunity or invitation that you would normally decline. Time to strengthen those YES muscles Gentle Reader! YES, you can do it!!
Linda
