Whole Picture
Hey there,
Shall I say it? FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, a tad excited but that's just fine. The best way to be. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate or frosty beverage? Got 'em all.
Sometimes when you're tackling a new project (and it can feel just like that - a football game!), it is always great to get perspective. When I decided to lose weight last year, I was originally intimidated at the thought of losing 50 lbs. 25% of my total body weight. Whoa! However, I also knew how quickly I had been gaining weight and doing the math meant a challenging summer! So I joined Weight Watchers, took a deep breath, and started the program.
Has it been difficult at times? YES! Is it still challenging 10 months later? UH-HUH! However, what helps me stay focused (and some days that is not so easy), is seeing the whole picture. The numbers from last year compared to today. All the baby steps that it took to get me from A to B is amazing BUT seeing it in perspective is priceless.
In order to keep up the enthusiasm for your goals - it is good to see the small and positive moves forward as well as far you've come to-date. Even if it is just a short distance, you are still ahead of the game than if you didn't start in the first place. All good Gentle Reader, all good.
This is why I strongly encourage you to keep a journal or notebook with you (one from the Dollar store works perfectly). Record your thoughts, plans, and what you really what to achieve with your life. Reading over past entries about your successes and even struggles is very motivating. Realizing that you've been through rocky times before will encourage you to keep trying! Or you can mimic your past successful attempts for similar positive results.
So for today, imagine your life AFTER your goal has been reached - money in the bank, slimmer body (and new clothes!), or working in that new office. Now backtrack to where you are now and start planning the steps to get there. YOU CAN DO IT!
Until Saturday!
Linda
