One in 6.8 Billion
Howdy,
Happy Monday to you - wherever you are on this planet! Speaking of planets (and I do mean THIS one!), do you know that the world population is just under 7 BILLION people. Staggering. Can you imagine if EVERYONE joined Facebook? That's a lot of online chats!
However, despite there being all of this amazing people in the world, you are the ONLY you. Even if you're a twin, you're unique. Unless your parents got lazy and named you both the same name and BELIEVE ME, that's a Reality show in the making!
Yet you are you in all your beauty and flaws and then some. Trust me, the flaws are the best part! Makes everyone interesting. Ever watch the tv series HOUSE or Big Bang Theory? I rest my case.
We tend to always try and find similarities to others (whether we have met them or not) and not celebrate the differences. Why is that? Is it the "birds of a feather, flock together" idea? I'm not sure. True, I do the same too BUT also love the diversity out there.
We really need to celebrate this unique part of our personality. Be proud of who you are. Remember Susan Boyle (SuBo as us fans call her)? Of COURSE you remember Susan Boyle you savvy pop culture pal you! When she walked out on stage for Britain's Got Talent, she was almost booed by the audience and the judges. You could hear them laugh at her dream of being the next Elaine Paige. She was somewhat plain in appearance, her behaviour a little over the top, and yet....when she opened her mouth to sing...she sounded like an angel. All of a sudden everyone watching knew they were witnessing someone who not only applauded who she was BUT embraced her unique self. Then they applauded her - standing, gasping, crying, and totally feeling they were wrong to judge.
So Gentle Reader, why do you judge YOURSELF this way? Why do you tend to favour those people who look, sound, and dress like you and less towards those who are different? How boring would life be if there were no differences out there. I have pals from all kinds of backgrounds, cultures, ages, cities, etc. I LOVE IT! A beautiful mosaic of love. Truly.
Your homework challenge (you KNEW there would be one!!) is to reach out to a new friend who doesn't really share anything in common with you except that you both like to smile. That's the ONLY thing in common. Trust me when I say, you will learn so much about yourself in the process.
Linda
