Baby Steps...
Hey there,
What happened to Wednesday? I am sure it was JUST here. The week, my friend, is going too fast!
We're now at the end of the first month of the new decade. Whoa! They (the official THEY) say it takes 21 days to set a new habit - good or not so good! Now you know how I feel about new year's resolutions. Don't like 'em at all. I like YOU just the way you are (thank you Mr. Joel)...HOWEVER, if you must change something in your life then I support you 100%. I want people to be happy.
That said, the best thing to do when tacking something new and scary (and isn't it always this combination?), is to take baby steps. Onward and upward but with small goals at first. Get your feet wet before swimming the marathon.
Yet Gentle Reader, you're saying BUT YOU SAID LEAP BEFORE YOU LOOK! Well yes, that does sound like me AND that is my philosophy but with one explanation. I want you to tackle those big fabulous goals in life but sometimes you need to do it slowly. Last year I lost 50 lbs but at 1 lb at a time....Still challenging every day but I remind myself that each lb and each week got me here - 9 months later.
Maybe your goal is to organize your home but you get overwhelmed when you open that front closet or that t-shirt drawer. Even if you just stack your cd collection or recycle those outdated magazines in the kitchen, that is a positive movement towards the final goal. No one said you had to organize your entire home in one day. Ok, first you MUST get this book by Hellen Buttigieg http://www.amazon.com/Organizing-Outside-Box-Conquer-Learning/dp/192664509X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264728850&sr=8-1 to make it much easier (worked for me!) Once you know your personal learning style, it really helps you to stick with your new organizing plan and keep your home looking wonderful.
Same with learning a new language, driving a car, or playing the piano. All baby steps will get you moving forward. The fun part is the journey. Truly!
If you find that your enthusiasm for your latest project no longer sparkles as it did in the beginning then take a step back and break down the next task into something smaller. You'll still reach your goal one day and the pressure to do it quickly will be gone. You can always pick up the pace again whenever you want. Your goal, your life.
Until Friday (yay FRIDAY!)....
Linda
