Breathing Space

Hi there,

Panic time yet in the old holiday preparations?  Hope not! If YES (and you shrieked YES!!) then please breathe and sit down a bit.  This is a good place to relax.  I'll get you a warm beverage.  There there...it will ALL be ok.

Well one week before the big M C (Merry Christmas to you rookies).  How are we doing? I'm sure your list looks like it has been through the washing machine and back (IT has? Well that's not good!).

This year will be a very quiet one for myself and my family.  More of a time to reflect than really celebrate with all the glitter and sparkle of past holidays.  That's ok though because this is the time of year to review your past 12 months and plan for your future year.

You should also book some YOU time in there as well.  If you're running full steam ahead and don't allow yourself to some downtime PRIOR to all the festivities kicking into high gear, you may end up crashing even before Santa comes down the first chimney.  With H1N1 out there, it is best to get as much sleep as possible.  You don't HAVE to attend ALL the parties you are invited to - only go to those that make you happy.  NOT out of obligation or because "we always go to that one!"  Sorry, not buying that this year.  Go because you know you would be unhappy if you didn't attend.  Don't let guilt play into this equation at all.  Guilt is a terrible thing that ruins a lot of holiday fun for people.  YOU are in charge of YOUR life.  If YOU don't want to attend a party then just don't.  No wonder so many family get togethers end in disaster when everyone is feeling that they do so much for others and no one has taken a breather during the entire month.  Not a Rockwell painting!

I have asked Santa for flannel pjs (my FAVE attire during the holidays) and will happily be in them for most of my time off.   The weather in Toronto has been unbelievably cold - no real snow yet though.  My holidays will be INDOORS more than out!

Some music on the stereo, kitten Jack by my side and a mug of hot coffee and I'm good to go.

So please, take some time over the next few days for a catnap or listening to some soothing music or reading a book or two!  Your time is even more important than anyone else's.  Trust me on this one.  You'll feel better putting yourself first for a change.

Until Saturday, keep warm and happy!

Linda

My Christmas's have always been sad, because my mother was always sad and now she is old and uses being ill as an excuse not to come here. This year we have offered to pick my parents up and take them home on Christmas day so I hope they will go through with it and have a positive attitude when they are here. It's a long story and Christmas is not the best time for me. I would love to be guilt free, and sit with my husband and sons and dog and kittens and cook and have some wine and just relax and take a deep breath and appreciate life as it should be. I don't read all of your blogs, but really enjoy the ones that I do. Take care.
