Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells.....

Hiya,

Hope you had a wonderful Tuesday and are ready for all the excitement that Wednesday brings.  No, I haven't had my coffee yet. Thanks for asking....

Well here we are at just 9 more sleeps until Christmas.  For those who celebrate this holiday, how are preparations going?  A wee bit panicked? My one answer this year is gift cards my friends, gift cards.  You can get them for practically every store and restaurant.  Some companies in Toronto (like Cadillac Fairview) have them for ENTIRE shopping malls.  Talk about your indecisive moment.  Also here in Toronto you can load up all these gift cards at your local drugstore (Shoppers or Pharma Plus).  You don't even have to venture to the actual stores!  You can order them online and have them mailed to the recipient but I find the in-person method to be less stressful.  You know your loved one will have their gift card in time for December 25 because will be giving it to them yourself. Whew!

Christmas decorating has started on the home front but minimal this year. Did I mention kitten Jack?  The Siamese that can scale the unscaleable and break non-breakable items?   Definitely a talented boy!  Bold too. Will do all of this in front of me.  He seems to enjoy the audience factor. JACK! THE REALITY SHOW! So, the tree idea has been scrapped - twice.  Probably after I watched Jack whimper on the weekend that he wanted to munch on some sparkly garland on a wall screen and if Mommy could just lift him up, he'd be able to reach it. Or maybe it was after he stood on his hind legs against the screen and proceeded to climb up. It's all a blur. Sigh.

After visiting many stores over the past two weeks, it seems that shoppers are buying but not with the same energy as years gone by (or cash for that matter).   I have seen A LOT of credit cards being used and many people buying items for themselves just as much as for others.  I am hoping that people stop for a minute to think of those children who might not have a happy holiday season and drop off a new, unwrapped toy at 299 Queen Street West (or financial donation) at any RBC location in the city.  http://www.thewish.ca/wishCore.cfm Only takes a minute to do and a child will be smiling brighter on December 25 because of you!  Thank you for this important Christmas request!

With WW in my back pocket now, I admit I haven't fully embraced my share of holiday treats this year.  I have had a few warm beverages (apple cider ROCKS!) but nothing like 2008...the eggnog season.  Still I plan on enjoying myself on Christmas Day except mindful that my clothes have to fit on December 26 since I recycled all the bigger items!! I knew there was a practical side there.

Don't forget to schedule lots of YOU time too.  Always lovely seeing friends and accepting holiday invites but you also need time to unwind and recharge before the family gatherings.

Here's to your calmest holiday season yet!

Enjoy your Wednesday and let's plan a get together on Thursday.  Casual attire encouraged (pjs included)!

Linda
