Sweet December

Hey there,

Thursday, you, me. All great! Let's go.

December has FINALLY arrived! Not that I NEEDED an excuse to get into the holiday spirit mind you *ahem* -- Gentle Reader, I can hear you snickering from here.  I warned you back in November that I would spiral out of control once December landed.   Now everyone ELSE has caught up.  I am such a trendsetter....

We still don't have any snow in downtown Toronto. Not a snowflake. Wild!!  Yet Christmas lights are going up on balconies, window displays are out, and the tv specials are on.   My two favourite holiday shows - "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Christmas Vacation."  You thought I was going to say "It's a Wonderful Life" or "White Christmas" or "A Christmas Carol."  Well those are fabulous too BUT I've been watching Charlie Brown for over 40 years now - that is such a part of the season for me.  Like many, I can recite the movie, word for word, as I watch it yet!   Snoopy and Woodstock make me laugh, the tree makes me mist up, and the ending always has me in tears. Every.single.time.  Yeah, I am huge supporter of kleenex.

Then there are the Griswolds.  Everyone knows at least one house in the neighbourhood that has a massive Christmas light display on their lawn (hey! maybe it's you! - if it is, PLEASE email me your address)  I love over-the-top decorations and celebrations. Why not? Life is darn too short and if it makes people smile then I'm all for it.  To quote Buddy the Elf, smiling is my favourite....

There is enough sadness in the world not to want to see more cheery faces.  Especially at this time of year when the economy is causing so much hardship for others.  Would it be so difficult to bring a hot chocolate to a pal in the office or bake a few cookies for your elderly neighbour? You'd be surprised how little things like this can make a world of difference to those feeling blue over the holidays.

I like using snowman pencils, notepads with snowflakes on them, and candy cane pens with peppermint scented ink (thank you dollarstore!)  I will wear my green converse sneakers with the red laces and probably get some Santa earrings too.

And you KNOW a Christmas sweater is out there waiting for me....

What is your favourite Christmas or Hanukkah tradition? Let's share!

Keep smiling and I'll see you tomorrow.

Linda
