Babes in Toyland
Hey there,
Tuesday and it is SNOWING in the city - well some flurries! Toronto didn't get any snow in November - first time in 72 years - WOW!!
So now we just have 23 sleeps until Santa!!!! I am sure this is where the panic starts to kick in for most people. Seeing the calendar turn to December means the countdown has begun - of course WE started that countdown AGES ago, right?!
Seeing all the toy commercials on tv makes me think back to when I was a kid and the must-haves of my generation. Board games were huge back then (60's and early 70's). Games like Sorry, Monopoly, Trouble, and Clue were favourites. I LOVED playing the game Operation though we didn't have it in our house but we did have Mousetrap. There were no computer games back then but we did have a lot of fun. Kids really had to use their imagination back then. What happened?
One of favourite toys was one called Beautiful Chrissie. She was a tall doll and her auburn hair grew from the top of her head. You cranked the knob on her back (poor thing) to make the hair as long or as short as you'd like. She had mod and groovy fashions and I was VERY lucky as my Grandma made her clothes too - to match with mine! A mini-me!!!
Another much loved Christmas toy was my Spiral Graph - those little plastic templates that you used to make swirly wild ink or pencil drawings. The combinations were endless as you could mix and match different styles and colours. I loved crazy art even back then!
While I missed that Cabbage Patch doll craze (was in my 20's by then!), I remember putting my parents through a stressfest when I HAD TO HAVE the new Ernie and Bert hand puppets (Muppets had just arrived on tv and Ernie and Bert were da bomb!) They went to endless stores to find them (I got Ernie and my younger brother had Bert). Still have them today!
Did you have a favourite toy as a kid? What was it? Sometimes I like to check out ebay for a trip down memory lane. Try it! You'll be amazed at what is out there.
Have a wonderful Tuesday and I hope to see you on Wednesday!
