Christmas Mega-zines!
Hiya,
Sooo good to see you again. How was your Tuesday? Well, Wednesday will be even better (YES, this is me BEFORE coffee!!!)
I swoon over Christmas magazines. One of my favourite holiday pleasures. They're shiny, and colourful, and EVERYONE is smiling - even the gingerbread men. Plus they are fat-free! I admit that I do keep one or two each season to enjoy the following year. However, when I last moved, I decided to recycle ALL of them - didn't realize how much I LOVED Christmas magazines until I counted 91. Yup 91! That's a lot of holiday!! As I was carting them to the laundry room, I passed by a couple in the hallway. Her eyes lit up and her partner said "don't even THINK about it....." Ah a kindred spirit!
By the time I made a second trip downstairs, they were all gone!
Now if you're a fan of the seasonal magazine, you'll realize that the same titles are recycled in different ways each year. Always "101 Ways to..." "Dozens of Gifts under $5" and of course "Santa's Naughty List - Are You on It?" (ok they never say that but if Cosmo had one, that COULD be a title! For the record, I plead the 5th)
The families in these magazines are all laughing, singing carols (ok they LOOK like they are singing) and wearing those beautiful BEAUTIFUL holiday sweaters. Be strong Linda, be strong.... Yes, I wish for a Chirstmas sweater but that's a future blog! Maybe a green one with a tree and a reindeer, and little presents on the sleeve. Sigh.
Have you ever noticed that most of the people in the families are all slim despite the large plates of Christmas dinner in front of them. I don't see anyone with their pants unbuttoned, enjoying the second (or third) slice of pumpkin pie, or the extra helping of turkey and gravy. Where are those people? Those people are MY people.
Pretty soon all the Christmas magazines will be on the newstands. They seem to appear earlier each year. While the Martha Stewart one is rather gorgeous, Oprah's magazine has fabulous gift ideas, but my favourites tend to be Family Circle and Good Housekeeping. The ones I remember and enjoyed reading as a kid.
So what is your favourite holiday indulgence? Do tell!
Until tomorrow!
Linda
