Take Me to the Sugar Cookies!
Hi again,
Good Saturday so far? Great! Me too (though am a bit sleepy - that kitten Jack loves to wake me up BEFORE the alarm!)
You know, with the holiday season just weeks away (how many sleeps to Santa you ask? Why Gentle Reader, I don't think I know but...33 SLEEPS, 33 SLEEPS!!! Ho Ho Ho, of course I know - classic rookie question...that's ok, you'll do better next time...) I haven't started with the holiday decorating just yet. My parents did ask that I put up their tree in two weeks (aka THE TREE with a 1000 branches - wish I was kidding here - makes IKEA look like a Kinder egg!!)
Now I have mentioned that this will be a no-tree zone this year due to the sweet and adorable Kitten Jack (aka Sir Jack to you CP24 fans!). In the past few weeks, he has shown me that he can EASILY climb almost anything - the back of my computer chair (cute), shelving (aDORKable!), and even in between the range hood and the fridge (WTH?!) - sooooo putting up a tree is like spraying my clothes with catnip and leaving the closets open before I leave for work. Oh yes, you say, that WOULD be a funny YouTube moment but nope, not going to put up the tree. I would lie awake at night just waiting for that 6 ft beauty to crash into the couch. Plus I certainly don't want the boy to get hurt SO maybe next year!
That explains my next Christmas tradition - the reading of the Christmas magazines. *swoons* You know, when you're in Weight Watchers (say WHAT? yes, you'd THINK I WOULD chat about this more...heh), you may focus a wee bit more on the recipes than the giftie suggestions, and elaborate outdoor lighting. This year I find myself fixated on the "101 Cookie Recipes to Love!", "Turkey like your Grandma Made", and a classic favourite "12 Kinds of Fudge to Make and Give" (all I read is MAKE). If there are photos of beautifully wrapped gifts, cute Highland Terriers with plaid bows, or homes with 3 different themed trees, well I'm not seeing it....yet!
I'm a baker and that doesn't help either. I can imagine making each wonderful recipe for say, oh, A SNACK, despite the recipe telling me it serves 8 people! I would happily sit down with a serving spoon and a big bowl of English Trifle or a mincemeat pie and my hands! Sorry, that's how I GOT to be a member of WW in the first place. My love for all things sugary. This coming holiday of course is the SEASON of SEASONS when it comes to sugar and spice and everything nice! Mmmmm sugar. My old BFF. *sniffle*
I admit that I have avoided all sweet treats for awhile now. Still have my weekly sorbet treat - 1 scoop from Baskin Robbins - 3 points. However, I have avoided the thing they call the cookie. Haven't had a cookie in over 6 months. Yeah, I'm jonsing for a cookie but will remain strong until the first few snowflakes land.
WW teaches you that you can have whatever you want but with moderation. Now I know that one cookie will call to another and another (that potato chip theory) and I'm not strong just enough yet. A lot more years of being a member of the Cookie Club more than WW.
Still I LOVE my Christmas magazines and will continue to buy them and savour the fabulous pages. In mid December I WILL bake my gingerbread cookies and other holiday goodies and then give 99% away....There MIGHT be a few nibbles in there but that's about it. Can't be wearing Santa pants on December 26!
Enjoy your day and here's to a great Sunday!
Linda

That's what I love about WW...they teach you how to moderate. Now only if I would use what they teach me. >
