Merry Cash-mas!

Hello again!

Great to see you back.  Good day yesterday? Hope so!

Well the most wonderful time of the year is upon us now.  You know, SHOPPING!  Every year I decide to shop earlier, use cash, and NOT get into any credit card debt.  Seriously, that isn't a gift you want to give yourself in January!   Just like those 5lbs that sneak on you over the holidays - another kind of debt!

SO, this year it is going to be different and you'll be my witness!

Thanks to WW, support of great family and friends AND being focused on feeling and looking better, I am not "in debt" this holiday season.  I'm about 6 lbs away from my goal weight and that is both exciting AND scary.  I'm so used to being in the "biggest loser" zone and not the "same, no change" way of thinking.  However, that will be another blog later on!

This year I have budgeted a set amount for gifts and that's it.  All cash for this season too.

Actually my IDEAL Christmas would be no actual physical gifts sent or received at all - just charitable donations made in your loved one's name or acts of kindness to honour them.  You know, really capturing the spirit and emphasizing all the goodness of the season.  Now just to convince others to do the same (the stores are throwing fruitcake at me but that's ok. I LOVE fruitcake!)

I don't know why the world (ok, North America in particular) says that you show your love for someone by the amount of gifts you give them.  Say WHAT now? Truly? Is that where we are in 2009? However, we can't show love by doing nice things for people year-round instead of presents? Somehow, that's NOT in the message that we want to give people, especially kids?

So this holiday season, I am going to send you endless happy vibes that make your entire season sparkle.  I wish you peaceful nights, joyful dreams, and feeling that much happier when you wake up than when you went to sleep.

Of course this is just the tip of the North Pole as far as Christmas blogs go. You are SO lucky, Gentle Reader! You'll see!

Catch ya on Friday - have a fab Thursday!

Linda

You are very funny! Why is this the first time I've popped over to your blog? I'll definitely visit more often now.

This Christmas I'll be in Israel, far away from the consumerism that surrounds the holiday in the states. I know I'll miss it a bit but it's interesting to see it from this side of the world. When you wrote about the idea that maybe we should give each other gifts all year long instead of just on this one holiday, you made me think of a friend's wife here who is very much consumed with buying things for herself and her daughter. It's easy to see how crazy it is when it's not me doing it! She buys her something practically everyday and it drives her husband bananas, because he is the only one who works at the moment. She's about to give birth to their second daughter... so ... we'll see... It's a difficult issue in their house. As I'm sure it is in many homes and relationships. Have a great day!
