All about the Art!
Hey there,
How was your Thursday? Bet you had a great day but I'd bet even MORE that you're smiling because it is Friday! Me too! *giggles*
Ok, let's get to it, eh? [yes, being Canadian I do say "eh" now and then but mostly because people expect it. Just like they expect us to eat maple donuts (check), wear flannel (check), and adore bacon (mmm bacon)]
What's your passion? Your hobby? The past time that makes you grin at the thought of winning the lottery tonight and setting up shop tomorrow? Yes, shopping is a hobby if you're asking!!
For me, my passions are painting (abstracts - acrylic) and photography (digital - colour and b/w). In 2007, I was on Flickr (as Chartreuse Monkey of course!) and took hundreds of photos with a fabulous little 4MP point and shoot - FujiFinePix 3100s. My parents gave it to me as gift so I could capture my paintings on film. That completely renewed my love for photography and I carried that camera everywhere. I was able to record 100's of photos of my beloved kitty Macy and I am so thankful that I did. She passed away in November of 2008. Still a very sensitive area for me.
Then for my birthday in 2008, I got a Canon Xsi digital SLR. Mother of all things lovely and good in the world. I FOUND my camera - now I was able to buy various lens, read photography books, and join the big kids in the playground! I have learned so much from other photographers and from taking lessons. This will definitely be a lifelong journey for me. Very exciting!
However, the art that speaks to my soul is painting abstracts. I love using my fingers for most of it (yes, I am still finger painting 43 years later - who knew?!!!) Two of my favourite artists are legends in the world of abstracts/contemporary art - Jackson Pollock and Helen Frankenthaler. Helen Frankenthaler celebrates her 80th birthday next month and is still painting large gorgeous paintings. There is one of her paintings hanging in the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Painted in 1961 - my birth year. Sometimes I just sit on the bench in front of it for 30 minutes at a time (must make those security dudes a bit nervous!) That painting ALWAYS inspires me to create some of my own.
My latest fave artist is Sandra A. Morris (Sam) whom I had the great pleasure of meeting a couple of weeks ago. Her art is breathtaking on every level!
What kind of art makes you swoon? I wanna know!
Have a fabulous Friday and see you tomorrow.
Linda
